P/Virt (person)
From PVirtWiki
A P/Virt is someone who is able to alter reality within a field of autocausality. In informal terms, a P/Virt is someone who can enter the P/Virse. The term originated as a neutral nickname for Philosophical/Virtual Reality, but it is used both disparagingly, usually by non-sensitives, and proudly by P/Virts themselves.
P/Virt Culture
Many, although by no means all, P/Virts find the experience of being within the P/Virse exhilirating and liberating, and naturally wish to share the experience with others like them. Assembling in groups can be difficult for P/Virts, for multiple reasons. To begin with, a relatively inexpensive P/Virt Machine doesn't generate enough of an autocausality field to accomodate more than two people comfortably. P/Virt gatherings require multiple overlapping fields, or more often one or more high-end P/Virt Machines that cover a larger area. Secondly, the larger the space, the more difficult it is to protect it from observation by non-sensitives.
For these reasons and others, most P/Virt gatherings are held in semi-secret, with attendance by invitation only. For small gatherings, someone's room or apartment may be enough -- some P/Virts seek out living spaces with few or no windows to make protection from observation easier. For larger events, empty warehouses are popular, although some gatherings have been held in wilderness areas, with varying success. Most large cities have at least one standing, ongoing place for P/Virts to gather, known as a "forum." These forums are typically open to anyone on the guest list at any time, and often have a day crowd and a night crowd according to participants' living schedules. P/Crime can become a problem, especially in public gatherings, but normal physical security measures help keep would-be P/Criminals in check.
In P/Virt society, those with more powerful philosophy are often, but not always, held in esteem, especially if they use their philosophy for the good of the community, for instance creating interesting and novel P/Virt spaces within forums.
P/Virt communities and sub-communities differ greatly. Some, of course, are dedicated to providing novelty to pleasures of the flesh, while others are artistic communities striving to work with reality as an art form. Many are like any other large group of people, not dedicated specifically to any goal but socializing and sharing a hobby, even if that hobby is exploring an alternate universe. It's very common for P/Virts to use a different name within the P/Virse, both as a way of separating their real-world life from their P/Virt life, and as a slight veil of anonymity.
Similarly, the organization of P/Virt communities varies as well, ranging from enlightened -- or not-so-enlightened -- dictatorship by whoever has the strongest philosophy and the best P/Virt machine, to attempts to create a democratic Philosophical/Virtual society. There is no established case law concerning property and rights within Philosophical/Virtual Reality, so the P/Virts are largely on their own in that respect.
